I’m planning to do the same. Make flyers for it, post them online and irl, make it a party, do it at an air bnb, apartment, abandoned warehouse, wherever. Then you can make the vibe whatever you want, pick the music, make food, whatever you think fits your art. Can do some networking there, who knows who’ll show up ! If you document it, I’m sure more established institutions will be impressed at you putting on your own show if you decide to apply for your next collection of work. At the very least, you can throw a fun party with your art on the walls !

went to my roommates boyfriend‘s art show last minute and did not regret. Definitely didn’t know what I was getting myself into and despite my exhaustion peaking 15 min into our time at the gallery i very much enjoyed it. 100 artists had their artwork featured in various fridge doors. Very beautiful concept.

I recommend an exhibition/gallery/museum for a first friend date. You get to talk about what you're looking at and what you like and what you don't and that leads to loads of tangent conversation opportunities. And you can have a coffee after and walk around a bit and decide what you would buy from the gift shop if you had unlimited money. Plus you can pick up the listings and find another show you want to go to and plan a second friend date!
