How did I not know this happened. And in a Versace bomber jacket no less. In this same show, Jay-Z came and they performed “Niggas in Paris”. (God I miss them together.) There are clips of all the angels overjoyed bumping to the performance backstage, intercut with a glowing pregnant Beyoncù. I am currently in a deep deep deep deep dive into old Kanye for academic purposes (this sounds extremely nerdy because it is, but I have an in depth analysis on the College Dropout and how it’s Shakespearean/its relation to Greek theatre/compositional structure
) – and yes, i went down a kanye wormhole which led me here. But I’m grateful. I could create a long & fruitful list of the best old Kanye performances/music videos– I might need to because my brain is bursting. I miss the old Kanye. Straight from the go Kanye
. (But yeah I do love that song Carnival.)

Anybody remember a clip show about banned music videos that, incidentally, ended up on one of the networks that banned them? It was either VH1 or MTV2, and they ran stuff like Nine Inch Nails’s “Closer,” Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy,” and Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up.” Anyway, I was glued to the TV whenever it came on and I think a lot of my aesthetic sensibilities came from that 90s-00s golden age, making me into (regrettably) a bit of a music video snob. No offense, but the VFX-driven spectacles of today just don’t hit when you cut your teeth on stuff from CANADA and the Directors Bureau (whose website sadly doesn’t even have their best stuff anymore). The unique exception is director Cody Critcheloe, who goes by SSION (pronounced like the latter half of *passion*), and his new video for Yves Tumor is nothing less than what I’ve come to expect from the multihyphenate: a hyperreal vision of Los Angeles replete with larger-than-life characters who are characteristically drawn up from real life, and handmade props that belong in a museum, but I’ll settle for a gallery. (In this case, it’s a smashed-up hand-painted sunburst convertible and a leather jacket with a The Cochran Firm logo.) It’s the stuff dreams are made of, cementing Critcheloe as one of the most exciting and visionary directors of our time (other notable mentions include Eugene Kotlyarenko, Anne Alexander, and Minister Akins).

A comprehensive history of MTV's flagship pop culture moment: the Video Music Awards. I found this to be very concise and clear in the points the video was trying to make. I enjoyed it :). It has made me realize how much I miss good music videos. Sabrina Carpenter has been on the case for a while, but it's not enough. BRING THEM BACK.

women who run with wolves, women who run with rats. the true ultimate bonding activity for you and the girls. because you’ll never forget how they sheltered you when you were low. one of the most liberating rituals I perform in New York is popping a squat in between parked cars or a dark corner and letting it all go
. wild wild women we are deemed to be. they may look down upon us because perhaps it isn’t “polite”. But when you’re bursting at the seams, why must we settle for discomfort? What’s a girl to do? We are not graced with simplicity to turn to the wall– subtly concealed without judgement. Our anatomy binds us to the confines of bearing it all in a squat. With added complexity given the outfit of choice. And always the obstacle of not splattering our cute shoes. but id only be telling you a falsehood if I said peeing outdoors isn’t so enjoyable whether it be in the middle of a forest or the city street. Even when all odds may be stacked against you. Only God can judge me. But God is a woman anyway.

It’s okay. it’s not for validation, it’s for performance art. Linda Montano said living life itself is her lifelong performance because she declared that it was. Trisha Paytas has carried on that performance practice. So I’m hot on instagram when the spirit compels me to be. But in like a durationally artistic way and for my future lifelong archive, to show my granddaughters that I was also young and fertile once and my boobs were decently sized and semi perky. They should know. That I was that girl once before I was grey and a bit wrinkled and more bitter than I am currently; for traditional reasons.

I’m post-grad, unemployed, no direction, sick with a stomach flu or something, went on 3 back to back trips so like I spent a lot of money, clearly have lots of time to write and recommend and ponder and not be ridden with confusion and anxiety these days. So yes, of course here I am. Back at last to Perfectly Imperfect. You’ve caught me red-handed. Crawling back as I’m glued to my couch currently on a nocturnal sleep schedule due to perhaps a combination of my illness and my body remaining in a time zone opposite to the one I must adjust back to. Hope someone out there missed me. The bitch is back.
