Caleb Landry Jones, who is best known for his electrifying performances as an actor may be one of the most interesting current musicians working. I had the pleasure of seeing his perform at The Sultan Room the other night, and it was unlike anything I’d ever seen. His physicality as he performed was animalistic, almost vaudeville-esque. It felt almost as if the music was possessing him, guiding his body into these grotesque shapes. Him and his 11 piece band were so in tune with each other; it was absolutely transfixing & phenomenal. His fourth studio album, “Hey Gary, Hey Dawn,” released by the label Sacred Bones (who also has Jim Jarmusch’s project SQÜRL on their roster), will be out this Friday and I highly recommend everyone checks it out. I have his two most recent singles off that album linked above.

(Andrew Savage of Parquet Courts fame, also a great band to see live)  I saw him with his touring band last November at Bowery Ballroom and it was (one of) the best shows I’ve ever seen. The band could not have been better. Savage’s more tender and atmospheric songs were executed with grace and gravity, his punkier music delivered with all the force it calls for. If you are unfamiliar, check him out. He is a truly unique lyricist and songwriter, which comes through especially on his two phenomenal solo albums. Yesterday, he released this new song^ “Black Hole, the Stars and You,” and of course, I love it. Also, check out his artwork. He’s a great designer and painter.

Blown away by his music. Got to see him live in LA a few weeks ago! The new album, Death Jokes, is great. It's like a fractured take on pop and electronic music. His voice is really unique and left of center. If you're looking for one of his more accessible records, start with Freedom, from 2018.

I am absolutely in love with this site. Better yet, I am very happy to see a lot of folks recommend music I have heard of or never listened to. I just wanted to put this out first before I go into a huge spiel. I am a huge fan of Jason Molina’s work, and every year, I take a listen to the majority of his catalogue works, from his solo, and two bands he created. What surprises me is that this is brutally honest music that haven’t reached a lot of people, but what’s great about this is when somebody knows who I am talking about, they get it. I wanted to share his music and promise whoever sees this that they’re in for a treat. Jason Molina had the promise of making music now if he didn’t die so early. What he left behind were countless gems for people to discover and enjoy. You don’t go looking for Molina’s music. His music finds you.

Poet & songwriter best known as the frontman of “Silver Jews,“ and the lesser known “Purple Mountains,“ Berman has a way of exploring the beauty in the darker aspects of life. Berman tragically took his in 2019. He had such a special way with words both as a poet and a songwriter. My favorite song of his, “Famous Eyes” is linked above.

Founded in 1995, Broadcast was an English band that drew influences from 60s psychedelia, electronic, and experimental music. Following the death of their lead singer in 2011, Broadcast has found a new life and a cult following due to the mystery surrounding the band. I’ve linked my favorite album, Tender Buttons above.

Due to the involvement of the US Military Sponsoring SXSW, many bands and artists have opted to pull out of SXSW as protest for the ongoing genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine. I’m very proud of my friends from Perfectly Imperfect and Baby’s All Right for dropping out of SXSW, and for standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine. Free Palestine 🍉
