I am absolutely in love with this site. Better yet, I am very happy to see a lot of folks recommend music I have heard of or never listened to. I just wanted to put this out first before I go into a huge spiel. I am a huge fan of Jason Molinaās work, and every year, I take a listen to the majority of his catalogue works, from his solo, and two bands he created. What surprises me is that this is brutally honest music that havenāt reached a lot of people, but whatās great about this is when somebody knows who I am talking about, they get it. I wanted to share his music and promise whoever sees this that theyāre in for a treat. Jason Molina had the promise of making music now if he didnāt die so early. What he left behind were countless gems for people to discover and enjoy. You donāt go looking for Molinaās music. His music finds you.
Songs: Ohia. Magnolia Electric Co. Solo.
Prolific songwriter who blended indie rock, blues, country, Americana and other sub genres of rock to create his unique sound.
Thereās no wrong place to start with his discography but some of my favorite tracks are: O! Grace (amazing sax solo), The Dark Donāt Hide It (gritty), all of āDidnāt It Rainā (last three tracks are a sad beautiful journey), Lioness (for the romantics), Alone With The Owl (you can really get a sense of how good his voice was here).
RIP 1973 - 2013
my friend recommended his song āCarthageā to me a couple years ago and since then, his nameās been on my radar but i never really took the time to properly dive into his discography until tonight. the weather getting cooler here has me craving the lush and warm sonic landscape of guitar music and this album is just what iāve been looking for. itās some of the most magical music iāve heard in a long time⦠i also recommend wholeheartedly thanking your friends for music recommendations that you really resonate with, even if you listen to it years after they recommend it, and even if thanking them sounds or seems sappy. recommending music is such a special and sacred thing and i always like to hear when someone connects with something iāve sent them, whether i talk to this person every day or once every few years. sharing music is choosing to love and we should spread that love all around, all the time <3

wAHb PS. My next EP is called āEarly Virginsā, and will be available on both Bandcamp and Spotify April 4th, 2025.
This album has the glossy night vibe, itās got vaporwave elements, and it has emotion that other synth bands from the 80s tried to capture. these folks made something special, and I always try to find albums that have a specific element to them, and this one had it: honesty. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Itās the weirdest thing, but whenever I write my songs, I have this old briefcase my great uncle had that houses my songs, WIPs, and the sheet music I use to write them down. I think itās neat.
