!!! i am so sick of spotify rn. i don’t know if i’ll ever leave spotify - but i feel like, it’s almost impossible for me to discover new music. i could create a classical flute playlist and spotify is like “lets add charli xcx next” - NTS radio has two djs spinning at all times. almost always it’s a hit very seldom is it a miss. sometimes i’m like yeahhh i don’t know if german hardcore rock at 9pm on a tuesday is a move. but it’s where ive found a lot of my recent music. i love this movement of getting away from AI suggestions and allowing humans to choose for me what to listen to

I don't touch spotify as much these days, their discovery algo just isn't great.
NTS radio is playing in my apt basically all day — go download the app, tune in live to one of their 2 stations or browse their archive of shows, exceptionally well curated sets from tastemakers and djs from all over.

everything spotify recommends to me is literal dogshit and the prospect of personal tastes being created and catered to by algorithms is grim asf. there is so much music in the world and the vast majority of it isn’t in the Spotify or Apple Music catalogues, much less the stuff that music discovery algorithms and editorial staff decide will actually make it to your ears. music discovery through radio like NTS and Rinse FM, staffed by actual people, is the wayyyyy. I’m shaking my ass to this rn

So recently I made the switch from Spotify to Apple Music because I heard music for real for the first time with Apple Music like the audio quality is NUTS!!
The only thing that’s been kinda hard is navigating the algorithm and finding it hard to find new music which in a way is a good thing because shouldn’t I be researching new music for real… like my favs used to crate dig for real!!!
Anywho I found this app called NTS radio which I know Clairo used to be on for real and some of the songs she played were sampled in Charm!!
NTS radio is a dope space where you can hear different DJs from around the world and their set lists and it’s been where I have been getting so much new music… I imagine this what crate digging used to feel like… tune into NTS radio!

listen, walks rock. and i don’t care if you are on your smart phone or your little walkman doing your hot girl walk. i think it’s sometimes beautiful and really relaxing to do half of my walks with no music and my phone put away. i tend to notice people more.. their weird annoying mannerisms.. i find more buildings and flowers beautiful and i’m reminded for better or worse i’m not the only one on this earth !

i’m thinking of all those videos on tiktok where someone asks a restaurant owner for food “but i have no money” and then BAM “actually i do have money and here is $1000” in suchhhh a good person. i just saw a girl in manhattan with a “free help” poster sign and my first thought was “oh god where is the camera” and lo and behold there was a full camera crew hiding behind her. do good things for people ! buy that drink on your tab and don’t tell anyone about it. just be nice in silence !

i cold call all day. hearing weird / interesting voicemail greetings instead of the robot is so refreshing - someone sang their voicemail intro . one guy was like “press 6 then press 5 and then turn around and touch your nose” one girl did a dominitrix voice and was like “don’t even THINK about leaving me a voicemail… simply text me…” so wonderful when ppl get creative w the mundane things in life
