By Kaitlyn Tiffany This is a combo of memoir + cultural essay in which Tiffany examines the history and impact of fandoms, fangirls and the internet using a mixture of academic research and personal anecdotes to frame her points. Tiffany’s writing is a great balance of casual/funny and informative and she approaches pop culture and pop media with a good level of respect without taking herself too seriously. I especially recommend if you are a fan of 1D as that’s the main fandom she speaks of from a personal perspective!

This book is a series of essays written by Cruz for The Atlantic as "a love letter to a once-in-a-generation pop sensation." I'm not a BTS fan (I stan Seventeen and Stray Kids), but these essays put great words to the borderline rapturous feelings that appear when falling in love with a new group. It's also a great narrative about fandoms in general!

As a fan of an artist/band, it’s hard not to feel exceptionally self-conscious writing about them. But as a writer, I gotta sort through the madness and I’ve found resolution in their art.

I feel like as you get older, friendships require a lot more effort and intention - you have to commit to wanting to be someone’s friend because everyone else is also an adult with so much going on in their lives! so people can seems a bit hostile and unwilling to open themselves up, but I would say the best way to make new friends is being the one to risk it first. You might be surprised as to how many people are willing to also open up once they know they’re not going to be emotionally dismissed!

Melodrama is one of my favourite pop albums ever, and the tracking is PERFECT. The album closes on this bittersweet but ultimately highly compassionate and energetic song that synthesizes everything it’s like when you’re coming into your own and discovering who you are in a world that seems very, very vast. We can be alone and confused together 😎
