in the future we could be turning to DNA for storage instead and possibly have DNA vaults since they have so much more storage capacity than current technology. scientists have already been able to store The Horse in Motion in bacteria and then replay it with pretty decent quality. edit: added a link to the paper for those interested

this got me fu! there’s no way I’ll have my daughters daughter quoting satc all because i chose to use my body as a hard drive!! in all seriousness tho, what would be the medical benefits of this ‘adjustment’. and do they have a payment plan? 🫠😅

domonique24ktgold haha i don't think we'll all be storing movies in our dna just yet even though that'd be pretty cool. there's a lot of ethical considerations to be had about who gets to edit human dna etc. there wouldn't be any medical benefits as far as i'm aware cause we'd be losing "storage" we need to code our own proteins. all the information would probably end up getting stored in bacteria instead tbh.

realising science is beautiful
wow i recently realised that in scans of cells etc - the cells aren't colourful themselves but it's the process of the fluorescent dyes they use to see the results... here is a pic of some serotonin crystals under a microscope... like how cool and pretty? science is so beautiful
