1. Princess Mononoke— I obviously knew about this movie whenever a Ghibli conversation would come up, but i recently got around to watching cause it was re-released in theaters. WOW, low-key violent, irreverent, and deep as hell. Definitely the most mature Miyazaki film. It's also the kind of film that other properties stole from, I'm thinking The Last Airbender and Zelda. Would recommend to anyone who’s on the fence about anime (if you consider Ghibli anime).
2. Okja— Bong Joon Ho, Hilarious, Animal rights but not in a preachy way. Super cool. You might be Vegan after.
3. Opus— My last two spots could go either way. I thought Opus was a really cool critique of celebrity culture. Ayo slays, and it has the dude that play’s the hotel manager from the first season of White Lotus, he also slays. Reminded me a lot of midsummer but like actually funny not uncomfortable funny.
4. Mickey 17— Cool, funny, Toni Collette is a gem. Original. Class commentary. I want a spinoff about their food.
