you've probably alr heard of this book but if you haven't read it I def recommend you do! its only 159 pages and it reads kind of like a very tame fever dream. my review of the book was: "made me want to die, in a good way" so do with that what you will

This past week, I went to Cape Cod for vacation. The airbnb we stayed at was filled wall to wall with books of all sorts. Over the door, up the staircases, and in all the rooms, there were books stashed about boat racing, insect catching, antique grandfather clocks, a professional mixers menu from the 50s, and so so many more. Naturally, I couldnโ€™t help myself but take this environment and do with it what I do best - escape into a Christie novel. This time I chose Murder on the Links. An easy to read Poirot mystery with several twists and turns, with a satisfying (if not sort of predictable) ending.ย After that, I finally dove into my first Camus, The Stranger. I expected this read to require more effort, as many classics so frequently brought up in psychological and philosophical discussions do, but it was such beautifully smooth read. The story was linear, the characters straightforward, and all very easily ingestible. Itโ€™s amazing to me such a simple book could have so much to say, but it really does and does it so well.

READ THIS BOOK!!! a disgraced journalist investigates a reclusive film director after the director's daughter is found dead in an abandoned warehouse in nyc under mysterious circumstances. whatever you think it's gonna be like based on that description, think again. this book blossoms and metamorphosizes into so many different things and somehow manages to ace every single one. i loved it so much that i was making myself only read ONE PAGE A DAY to make it last longer. 600 pages but feels so much shorter. and the best part? it's incredibly immersive, in part because the author utilizes a ton of multimodal aspects to make it more realistic. things like psych ward files, police reports, websites-- pic attached is an example. it's the only book i've ever read that includes such multimodal aspects in a way that feels INCREDIBLY true to life-- i regularly forgot i was reading fiction and started to look up the director's films to add to my watchlist. SO GOOD, read it now!!!

one of the best concept albums of all time. follows a young woman named Ethel Cain (the character, not the artist) as she encounters various men and eventually meets her violent death at the hands of one of the men. truly visceral and even disturbing at some parts but so so good, really recommend giving it a listen
