thinking to yourself that you’d perform the same whether or not people were watching helps me. being kind to yourself and remember when people come to a show they want to have fun and not wanting to see someone fail and mistakes are totally okay. i’ve made mistakes live and played countless shows where something technical and out of my control goes wrong and the crowd is always chill and just supportive. so it’s really getting out of your way and letting yourself do your thing - that said cbd helps sometimes, and microdosing helped me come out of my 4 year live show hiatus post-covid

talk a little too much and a little too loud. laugh for too long or too hard. don’t worry so much about how everyone’s perceiving you, stop preforming for an imaginary audience, not every interaction needs to be dissected. it’s okay to not always be defensive, tell people you love them, throw all your cards out on the table once in a while - the stakes aren’t always that high. remembering to get outside of my own silly head and actually live is hard sometimes.

Put yourself into increasingly mortifying social situations that make you think what am I even doing here and participate fully (bonus if it’s performance-arts-related). Remember to take deep breaths! Try to keep in mind that nobody is thinking about you as much as you are thinking about yourself. Develop your self-esteem and believe that though there’s always room for self-improvement, who you are is enough. Trust that most people are kind and understanding and if they aren’t that’s a reflection of their own moral character. The physiological feelings of anxiety might never go away but you can learn to react to them!

life is literally just existing, do it how you want too. when I find myself thinking too hard about how I’m presenting myself I try mentally slapping my self out of it by remembering that I’ll never see most of these people again. if I do see them again I remind myself I want them to know me as myself not as a person I curated for them. It’s never that serious, so all we got do is have fun dance and be in the moment.
