DC is a very easy place to get around, friends living across the city is no problem. In NoMa you'll be living on the red line, which means it's easy to get to Gallery Place-Chinatown (movie theater, art museums), Silver Spring (fancy movie theater, concert venue), or Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan (zoo (duh) and good restaurants/bars). You can also take the bus or walk or drive or scooter or bike or get a cab to wherever you want. Sources: I've been living in DC proper three years and have been in the DC area my whole life

Dupont, Logan Circle, Shaw, Adams Morgan are great places to live if you want to be more downtown. Capitol Hill and Cleveland/Woodley Park are nice if you want more residential vibes. It's great to be near metro lines (esp depending on your commute) but don't sleep on the bus bc it'll get you a lot more places. And if need some green space, proximity to the Potomac or Rock Creek Park is amazing. The arts & food are wonderful, so many free things to do, people from all over the world, don't buy into the idea that it's all politics

just super good restaurants and stores Really nice bookstore there and it’s overall just a nicer place to walk around compared to anything further in like near the monuments and stuff
