I'm a 12-year-old living in Ireland, up until this point, my musical taste was mostly confined to what played on the radio and whatever my mum enjoyed. While I did find some of her musical choices appealing – think Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, and Whitney Houston, I didn't really think about music beyond something to sing and perform to.
(Side note Back in those days, I was quite the performer, often putting on dance routines and passionately singing along to tracks by the Backstreet Boys and the whole Aladdin soundtrack.)
However, my musical taste underwent a significant shift during the summer of that year when I traveled to London. At that time, my cousins were all about UK Garage, Hip Hop and RnB. It was there that they introduced me to the song "Fill Me In" by Craig David, and something about it just resonated with me. Maybe it was the intrigue and allure of sharing in my cousins' musical tastes, but it left an indelible mark on my musical taste, a fondness that remains unwavering to this day.
In fact, that experience prompted me to make my very first album purchase with my own money at HMV (Oxford Street). It was Craig David's “Born to do it”. And I didn't stop there; I also picked up "Pure Garage II" – a topic I'll delve into later because it's undeniably a perfect album.
As I immersed myself in these new sounds, I returned to Ireland with a newfound fascination for London's music culture and a determination to shape my own, unique music preferences.
(Listening to the album while I write this, “Walking Away” may be my my favourite song on the album)

Genuinely one of my favourite albums of all time — encapsulates the emotion of feeling somewhat empty yet free & full of opportunities. I cry every time I listen to it because this album basically ushered me into young adulthood when I first found it

I was 13 years old and asked for my first ever vinyl for my birthday: Doolittle by Pixies. I had spent the past year developing an obsession with this album that still stands today. You can’t beat a classic.

one of my favorite bands! their first album Guppy gives Veruca Salt vibes but they've moved in a more pop direction since then and imo do both well. they have a new album and tour coming up and i really recommend seeing them live, they're so fun and high-energy that i was in a better mood for the rest of the week. got to meet them after the show and they were all super nice which is a bonus :)
