Always good but feeling particularly thankful for them this week!! My partner contracted covid after a recent trip, but because he masked around me and our kids constantly after getting home (as we usually do after such trips for 7 days), ate in a separate room with the door closed, and ran air purifiers—he was able to protect our whole household during the most infectious stage, which was before he was showing any symptoms but testing with a bright positive. (He developed symptoms the next day, which would have been too late to protect us if he hadn’t been masking and testing already.) It’s now day 9 since his positive and no one else is sick—still technically possible but the odds look good. šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ¤žšŸ» There’s nothing hotter than sacrificing a little convenience to save your loved ones (or anyone) from physical suffering… plus in the case of covid, potential complications or even chronic disability. It works!!! šŸ‘šŸ»

If you enjoy being un-disabled and having your life un-ruined I highly recommend this. Reminder that the only foolproof way to avoid getting long COVID is to avoid getting COVID! Check out Long COVID Justice (linked) or The People's CDC for more info.

first of all it’s really good for you and so important… parents are truly right that we need rest (and soup lol) when we r sick! like apparently with covid, resting for 2 weeks is like the best non-medicine thing can do to avoid heart damage or being sick longer. anyway this rec was sparked by how i was on the subway a bit today running errands and the number of people who were clearly dressed up for NYE that were coughing and sneezing a bunch was kind of sad? going out for celebrations is never more important than keeping our neighbors and loved ones safe! <3 and there’s always next year! capitalism tells us to go go go all the time, that it’s good to do everything the same/normal when we are sick, especially work, but also life in general, because usually a demand for appropriate sick leave at work is coordinated with a demand for better rights overall. (note: i am not saying that it’s bad if you can’t take off, but people who can stay home from work, plans, etc should do so). when we’re encouraged to or normalize not resting when sick, weā€˜re actually just being encouraged to work and spend money more, and to not care about the people we might get sick. rest isn’t always radical but sometimes it really is!

bc it’s what I originally wanted when I first went to college at 17 but I was scared to make writing my job and got a B.S. in Nutrition instead lol Now the goal is an eventual PhD in Victorian Literature but I’m just happy to have made it through this part at 32! Stacked is everything I read in my English courses—barely pictured are the 5 stuffed accordion folders of other reading materials under my chair haha
