big ups to iota carrageenan nasal spray (Flo Travel or Betadine cold defense brands) i’m a spoonie so it’s nothing short of miraculous that i’ve not gotten sick —no COVID, RSV, or flu— since i’ve made this a habit. i keep the spray near my door to remind me to use it before heading out and when i return home. NIH study showed a really strong efficacy at preventing* COVID, so in tandem with the vaccine and masking (on the train, at movies, shows, concerts when i’m not drinking or eating), i’m so grateful to have this in my health arsenal.
hey i'm back with another iota-carrageenan nasal spray to use before leaving your home and when returning. there are promising tests out of Australia finding that nasal sprays with iota-carrageenan (a type of red seaweed) are more effective at preventing the spread/infection of COVID than the vaccine, which is better at lessening the severity of an infection. i recommend using these in tandem!
the more crucial rec underneath: let's fight the misinformation that says the pandemic is over, when in fact it continues and is giving rise to other infectious viruses and illness. i know it's hard that we no longer have the data on it. but it helps to remember that when we had the data on climate change, we still didn't course correct and do what was necessary to divest from harmful fuel sources, to enact land back policies, to hold companies accountable for their emissions. we've never really been able to depend on our government/public officials, but we still have each other. we keep us safe. shout out to my buddy @MIDWESTZEN and their partner Al who inspire me to keep finding and sharing tools and tactics of community care.
I believe daily (non medicated) saline nasal sprays and gargling salt water a couple times a week has kept me healthy so far this winter. No sinus infections (my twice a year tradition), no respiratory infections or cough.
I don’t know if there’s science behind this or if it’s a placebo or just luck.
Always good but feeling particularly thankful for them this week!! My partner contracted covid after a recent trip, but because he masked around me and our kids constantly after getting home (as we usually do after such trips for 7 days), ate in a separate room with the door closed, and ran air purifiers—he was able to protect our whole household during the most infectious stage, which was before he was showing any symptoms but testing with a bright positive. (He developed symptoms the next day, which would have been too late to protect us if he hadn’t been masking and testing already.) It’s now day 9 since his positive and no one else is sick—still technically possible but the odds look good. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 There’s nothing hotter than sacrificing a little convenience to save your loved ones (or anyone) from physical suffering… plus in the case of covid, potential complications or even chronic disability. It works!!! 👏🏻
just compliment them! just tell them you love their outfit! just tell them their haircut is perfect and you can't find that on pinterest! tell them "i like you," so their brain can relax and they can just be. tell them when you're reminded of something they said or taught you. tell them "i was thinking about you!" and mean it. ...this is just the pep talk i needed
extend the life of your clothes by covering holes or stains with embroidery floss and yarn while giving them new cool zombie flair! you don’t even have to be neat, the more imperfect the weave the more organic the result. the best mended garments are almost fungal, covered in sick multi-colored lichen.
I beg of you get to the point. texting is not an instant messenger and I have not committed to a conversation / to being on my phone all day. you have no idea how this text finds me.
