I worked at a wildlife rescue for two summers. This was my memory from 8 years ago. The strength I had not to steal a baby opossum…

I was sitting on the steps to my house with my friend Evan. We were about 2 or 3. There were hundreds of ants on the sidewalk below us. Evan reached down and started smushing them. I turned to him and told him to stop: “How would YOU feel if you were an ant and someone smushed YOU?” A patronizing lesson in empathy… Interestingly, I had open heart surgery around the same time and spent days in the hospital, but this memory is much more visceral. Love this question.

when a 40 something man called and screamed at the top of his lungs at me , the type of scream I’ve only received before from my mother, because I told him we were booked and he would have to take his dog to the emergency vet (I’m a vet tech) and he was screaming threats at me and said his whole family goes to my hospital and they’ll never go again blah blah blah. but he didn’t know his mom LOVED ME. and she made him call back and apologize the next day. ALSO. one time this guy came in and was like. can you scan this dog for a microchip, I took my dog to a board and train facility and when I went to pick him up they gave me this dog , and this is NOT my dog… and he tried to tell the place that but they gaslit him and he was hours from home and it was getting late and he had to work in the morning so he took the dog, and it wasn’t his dog , they sent his dog home with someone else. Dogs were swapped back it all ended well my job is always crazy, crazy clients, crazy animals, dealing with euthanasias everyday, and when I have to cut animals or pets heads off to send them out for rabies testing

On my drive home today I saw a little girl chasing a goose and throwing rocks at it (True psychopath behaviour). So I rolled down the car window and yelled at her in a dad voice to STOP. Was it too much? Maybe. Do I regret it? No.

Humans have always danced. It is part of who we are, yet we have been conditioned to be self conscious, to think that we do not move our bodies good enough. Dancing is beyond judgement. Dancing is not a skill, it is our soul moving through our bodies, expressed in movement. Dancing is healing. Dancing is bodily autonomy. Dancing is FUN! Any feeling you are feeling can be moved through with dance yet even alone, you fear looking foolish. Kill the judge in your mind, shut the fuck up, and MOVE 🌊
