my dad has been saying this to us since we were kids. as an adult I appreciate it more and more because it’s protected me from creating unrealistic expectations for my life. managing expectations will protect you from a lot of disappointment in this life.

There’s two phrases I live by: 1. ā€œPrepare for the worst, hope for the bestā€ it’s something my father has said to me ever since I can remember anything at all. He says we must always be aware of the possibility of error and be prepared for it however we should never stop believing in the possibility of success and always stay hopeful! 2. ā€œthis too shall passā€ it’s just a good way of remembering that what now can seem like the end of the world will end up feeling just like a medium sized problem in a few months and eventually it will feel like nothing in a few years. All problems are valid problems however you must remember that time can heal all wounds.

by my mom. she’s been through a lot (war, cancer, etc) and she’s so right about this. like bad shit will happen regardless (which sounds depressing) but you just have to roll with it cause you can’t get out of it. a close second is ā€œthere are no impossible situations, only a lack of faithā€. she just says shit like this on a random tuesday ft call and im like. bet.

like... seriously. what's the harm in believing that everything will work out? obviously shit happens and there's definitely a chance things won't end up going your way, but what good does believing that serve you? does believing you won't succeed make your life better in any way? just want to think with more intention this year.. being more aware of how my thought patterns seep into my actions and behavior. it's so obvious, but it really is the simplest things that take the most time and effort to really understand.. i'd rather take on my life through a more optimistic lens than constantly expecting the worst, digging myself into a hole of self-pity and misery

if you grew up being a people pleaser like me, it can be so damn hard to set boundaries. but it was so great when I finally realized I simply didn’t have to say yes to everything/everyone. it was wild. blew my mind. I highly recommend.
