they are a great portrait of black inner city life in the 1st half of the 20th century. but honestly the way bambara writes is mesmerizing, she swallows u up and forces u to become these characters. highly recommended
*Flowers for Algernon* is a relatively quick read and a complete mind fuck. Toni Morrison’s writing in *Jazz* embodies the music genre while following the story of two broken lovers. Definitely a page turner.
This applies to popular works that are often recommended by others (for me: bell hooks’s work, Man’s Search for Meaning, Braiding Sweetgrass) but it also applies to the classics that people don’t necessarily recommend because they’re difficult— often assigned instead of recommended because they’re important— but their significance and perceived difficulty often overshadows the fact that yes, they’re actually really that fucking good. The works in this category that come to mind for me are Moby Dick and Le Samouraï. What are yours?
which is something i never like to do but it’s easier in this case bc one is a poetry/lyric book. i’m reading If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin (my first from him since i’m only recently getting back into reading a lot) and it’s been pretty good. 90 pages in but definitely not far enough to give any concrete opinions. for sure very engaged by it though, and i would recommend since i like Baldwin’s writing style. i’m also not done with but still lovinggg the Leonard Cohen Everyman’s Library Pocket Poets edition. been so obsessed with Cohen’s writing/music recently. it’s a very good compilation and i plan on buying it in the future!
basically russian youtube if youtube had no copyright restrictions. i swear nearly every movie under the sun is in here. yes, that european arthouse movie from the 30's too (ok maybe not that one but who knows). the quality is great and it's pretty safe (my 1st world country friends use a vpn just in case xddd). pair it up with any on-screen subtitle chrome extension and ur golden.
