*Flowers for Algernon* is a relatively quick read and a complete mind fuck. Toni Morrison’s writing in *Jazz* embodies the music genre while following the story of two broken lovers. Definitely a page turner.
stories over time of a cast of characters loosely linked through the music industry In a post-modern style like not too dissimilar to vonnegut each chapter can be seen almost as a stand alone vignette edit: after re-reading your ask, I’ll admit not the weirdest book, but it’s also definitely not run of the mill narrative fiction. If you want weird, read Naked Lunch by William Burroughs. One of the most banned books of all time for a reason, grotesque, obscene, challenging, but imo definitely worth the read and I’ll be rereading it sometime. Helps to read along with a study guide to make sure you’re following what’s going on.
they are a great portrait of black inner city life in the 1st half of the 20th century. but honestly the way bambara writes is mesmerizing, she swallows u up and forces u to become these characters. highly recommended
which is something i never like to do but it’s easier in this case bc one is a poetry/lyric book. i’m reading If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin (my first from him since i’m only recently getting back into reading a lot) and it’s been pretty good. 90 pages in but definitely not far enough to give any concrete opinions. for sure very engaged by it though, and i would recommend since i like Baldwin’s writing style. i’m also not done with but still lovinggg the Leonard Cohen Everyman’s Library Pocket Poets edition. been so obsessed with Cohen’s writing/music recently. it’s a very good compilation and i plan on buying it in the future!
My gf and i just watched it yesterday evening together for the first time (w each other). It reminds me of when i was little. When it was just me and my mom. Before any of my siblings came along.
My two buds told me to get it while at Amoeba, a record/cd store in Berkeley. It’s has some of the most heavenly harmonies I’ve ever heard. My favorite songs right now are God Only Knows and Caroline, No. I think you guys should give it a listen Especially since we’re nearing Christmas.
