i watched this last month which i RENTED and now it is in this month's criterion curated collection. this always happens to me because i can feel the zeitgeist in my blood.
anyway, great movie with AMAZING styling and home set (california architecture at its best!!) and performance from robin w. i learned that originally trent reznor was supposed to do the score -the studios werent ready for that but it would have made the movie even better.

If you showed me images from the film and didn’t mention that this was a newer release, I easily would’ve mistaken them for pics taken for Life Magazine or Look or something along those lines from that time period. The immersion especially helps if you watch it on 70mm.

speed racer perfect movie about love and maybe the craziest looking movie of all time. thank you wachowski girlies portrait of a lady on fire i cried 100 times forever thank you lesbians inland empire for your consideration laura dern performs in a way never seen before nor since and david lynch makes his greatest freaky deaky evil world 8½ annoying (complimentary) postmodern movie about making things and making things about making things and ... etc!!!
my recents are great too except one of them which was bad :)

Recommending this because I just watched it and was blown away. Kind of experimental, off-putting but realistic sci-fi, like a film length Twilight Sone episode starring Rock Hudson. Some gorgeous cinematography and a great reflection on what it means to live a fulfilling life.
