red light signals for our body to stimulate melatonin production :•) (also - over the counter melatonin is actually a much higher concentration than what our bodies produce naturally, so it can have a paradoxically stimulating effect. red light is a good semi-natural substitute). i got a color-changing bulb and popped it into a paper lantern, both the brightness and the redness are adjustable and i use it as my reading lamp. knocks me outttt screen time limits or what i like to call phone jail which is when i plug my phone in to charge on the opposite side of the house so if i want it past bedtime i have to Walk of Shame™ one of my ongoing plagues is racing thoughts 🤪 i keep a notebook by my bed to scrawl down anything that is weaseling its way into my brain as i try to sleep. once it's out of my mind and on the page it seems more manageable and eases my mind. lavender spray on pillow, cozy bedding that you like, cooling cream on ankles ~ lights out, baby 😎

I know this is such an annoying answer but can’t overstate how helpful this has been for me. the endless loop of stimulation of a phone hinders sleep SO much. Settling in for some soothing back and forth eye movement with a chill book is amazing. I also started putting rose oil on my wrists before bed and now my brain associates it with sleepy time. Lavender seems to be a more popular option, chamomile is probably great too.

Trying to keep lots of things within reach - meds, book, journal, fidget toy, tarot cards, etc - so I can delay how quickly I get sucked into the abyss. So far it’s working!

I‘m an OCD baddie and I’m slowly weaning myself off of needing my phone to sleep. I have been reliant on podcasts/youtube for sleep for almost 10 years but it was really messing with my sleep quality and overall anxiety. I have been charging my devices outside my room, and then reading an easy book until I’m basically asleep. Then I try to sleep and if the OCD spirals win I‘ll get my phone and play a boring podcast I’ve heard before. It’s tough but it’s sort of working for me. Most nights I don’t end up needing my phone.
