Oh, the lure of San Francisco⊠I always dreamed I would end up living there as an adult because my parents lived there when they were young and hot in the 90s. I visited a lot growing up and was always enchanted. Ended up going to Berkeley for school and by then the vibe in SF⊠was already off. Expensive and full of tech bros wearing backpacks at bars and increasingly soulless. The housing crisis is devastating and visible on every street you walk down. I went last October for work and it felt so haunted. But if you mustâŠ
đ€ Scomaâs (fancy lunch in fishermanâs wharf, get the Crab Louie and a martini)
đ€ Tommyâs Joynt (no fuss meat sandwiches & cheap cocktails)
đ€ Vesuvio (perfect bar, iSpy vibes in terms of decor)
đ€ Tommassoâs (best italian. Get the chilled broccoli and some sort of pizza with arugula on it)
đ€ Swensenâs (my favorite ice cream in the world. I miss it and dream of it. Get sticky chewy chocolate or banana)
đ€ House of Nanking (go when youâre starving for Hot Food! you may have to wait a little but it wonât be that long. Get the green beans and if they have congee, by god get that. Also ask for chili oil)
đ€ The East Bay!! (Go to Berkeley and Oakland. Theyâre better lol)
capyboppy and I grew up eating Swensen's since the francise is huge in Thailand. Our pilgramage to the original location in SF was a highlight of our trip.
I can only nod vigorously with everything about this post. And perhaps add "go see live music there are still humans playing shows in the Bay" and to recommend Great American Music Hall, the Masonic, Bottom of the Hill and the Chapel as great places to see shows of a certain size. And of course Fox Theater in Oakland and the Greek in Berkeley (we lived down the street from there, there's nothing like just WALKING to a Lana Del Rey show, ha).
SF:
La Cumbre (elite mission burrito spot)
Boba Guys (think like third wave coffee mentality does boba, very good)
Dandelion Chocolates (trussmi)
Burma Superstar (iâve only been to the Oakland location) Bay:
Picante (Berkeley, best burrito Iâve had period)
Burma Superstar (Oakland, super good but super expensive)
South Beach/Drakes Beach (Marin County if you have a car itâs my favourite place in the world)
Boichik Bagels (iâm also a former NYer, theyâre legit)
Bongo Burger (Berkeley, diner ass shit but fire. maybe itâs just nostalgia though)
Slash (Berkeley, the owner is a Leviâs freak who knows everything there is to know about Leviâs products, incredible vintage selection & knowledge)
Muracciâs (Berkeley, good japanese curry spot)
i lived in the mission for a year and sometimes i forget that! Ty for reminding me.
- taking a stroll at crissy fields. preferably on a sunny day. the view of the bay and bridge is awesome and really sells the im in san francisco
- if you want to splurge on eats please go to Zuni Cafe! Itâs classy California chic. order a martini and a pile of french fries if youâre not up for a full meal
- for a fun drink thereâs true laurel and any drink pairs with their patty melt (would also recommend just the patty meltđ€)
- my old dive haunt was the 500 club + they have a photo booth
- garden creamery has a rotational / seasonal ice cream menu thatâs always yummy. grab a scoop and walk to dolores park
- the tea leaf salad!! at Burma Superstar
- catch a movie at the Roxie they have awesome programming
- donât be afraid to walk up some hills. some random neighborhoods can have epic views i hope you have a great trip đ«¶

Emails are the death of all natural human warmth. Itâs kind of just as awful to be a fun/funny emailer than to be a cold robot. You canât get tooo precocious with the signature but signing off with âCheersâ adds a little naughty spice while still being utterly forgettable and benign. Itâs kind of an adorable mental image for someone to be raising a glass every time they shoot off another email.
planning a 2 month trip is like getting to watch your own funeral. everyoneâs like weâre gonna miss you đ what will we do without you? and you get to be like đ you should have appreciated me while I was here.
