Books Unbanned is an initiative started by the Brooklyn Public Library to make banned literature accessible to teens and young adults. several other libraries have joined the initiative as well!
any residents of the USA between the ages of 13-26, can get a free library card that allows you full access to the library’s entire online catalog!!!!!
Brooklyn Public Library offers their cards for 13-21 year olds and you have to email them directly(they don’t have a link): [email protected]
The Seattle & Boston public libraries offer their cards for 13-26 year olds!
The San Diego public library offers their card for 12-26 year olds and they use the CloudLibrary app instead of the Libby app to access their e-book catalog.
LA County also offers their unbanned card but for 13-18 year old California residents only.
And no worries if you’re aged out! You can join the Queer Liberation Library on the Libby app, The New York Library’s Free For All program through the SimplyE app, and The Banned Books Club through The Palace Project app!!!

you have to be in the US and 26 or younger to get them! it was created to help young people in high school and college access banned books. you can apply online to get the cards from all the locations too since some have varied collections (boston, brooklyn, seattle, la). i really recommend this to anyone under 27 who wants access to more free ebooks in addition to their local library‘s collection!!!
and another option that isn’t free but haymarket books and some other smaller publishers sell their ebooks for quite cheap (haymarket is usually like $4-6?)

you can hook your library card(s) up to the libby app and check out all the ebooks and audiobooks your heart desires. you can also add multiple library cards to your libby account—which is great for people who want to share a libby account with their mom who lives out of state and new yorkers, who are allowed to have library cards from all three systems (the nypl, the bpl, and the qpl) no matter which borough you live in. basically any book you could want is available in any format you could want at any given time. and if they don’t have something, send your neighborhood library an email and they will buy it for you within a week!!!!!! fuck amazon & audible!!! long live libby! long live libraries!!!!!

Did you know that you can check out books from the library and read them on your phone?? Or a Kindle? (Superior experience IMO) And if you live in New York you can have THREE library cards at once and put holds on books at the Queens, Brooklyn, and New York branches to see which comes available first or simply scour all three for an old, dusty, rare read? It’s the best!

i loveeee Love Deluxe in its entirety but this is the song that i’ve had on repeat recently! it’s such an enjoyable listening experience, it’s almost meditative and the combination of an all consuming love that’s so intense it’s almost devotional with the glitter of nostalgia… it could bring me to tears
