My birthday is in August, so that’s one reason. But also, I love how it’s the peak summer month- everyone is doing their own thing, enjoying the outdoors, maybe on vacation somewhere, there’s just that slow leisurely summer lull. Then Labor Day and September roll around and then everyone starts to synchronize and get back into gear once again. That back to school feeling never really goes away!

Because nothing really happens. In India it is monsoon season already (starts in July). In Taiwan it is island summer and people are sick of this because it's been too hot for awhile. In the UAE an endless dead heat and no one steps out if they can afford it. It's also the month before things start to cool down (late September onwards) and festivities amp up. Long languid days of nothing, when there's festivities in other months. Or seasonal changes... this is a total dead end of a month.

its the start of summer! the semester is over and i feel free to enjoy myself, my friends are free to hang out before going home for the summer, and i don’t start work until the end of the month so i have time to kill by reading my book on the warm hill outside my house and to go to the playground and to ride my bike downtown. everything feels new and lovely, and my birthday is in may so i’m one year older and living it up

I don’t believe in ranking things- restaurants, albums, books, movies, athletes anything, top x lists whatever. I think it’s a waste of time honestly. Even with a completely objective criterion what’s the point. Would rather listen to and read people just talk about their favorite things and why they are special and meaningful to them- everyone has their own, interesting reasons. And this is a great place to do that!
