With most people defaulting to using sound bars for their TV nowadays, we have lost out on the stereo nature of most audio mediums. For a few hundred dollars, you can get a full system that connects your TV, record player, and gaming console all in one place. You’ll be shocked at the difference that two separate speakers and a subwoofer can make on your music and show audio quality. You can buy a decent system new online, or you can capitalize off suburban families swapping their system out every few years and go to an estate sale or lurk on Facebook marketplace.
Most musicians have terrible home stereos. They generally put all their resources toward studio gear which makes practical sense. 5-6 years back I made the unpractical choice to invest in my home system. After a lot of trial and error, I landed on components by this company in upstate NY called EM/IA. It’s pricey but I got lucky and found a used pair of their 50 amps and then got one of their passive pre amps (elmaformer). I listen to more music now than ever and that’s the best review I can give.
I thought I could get by with inexpensive earbuds. But I bought nice over ear headphones for video editing and, the first time I listened to my favorite band on them, I learned how much I was missing. Falling asleep listening to an album on these is one of my small pleasures.
super portable and not super expensive if i remember correctly. they’re small enough to be carried with you with headphones on the go but also can hook up to a larger sound system with an aux cable. i love mine!
