Find me tinkering with your clocks or repairing the sole of your shoe or sculpting your pots! Iād have some kind of specialized skill thatās useful to the people around me. My father taught me the trade and his father taught him and his fatherās father taught that father, etc.
in 1960 my grandparents were farmers so they had plenty to do and when it was too cold to do those things they got really good at crafts like embroidery, needlepoint, sewing, baking, fixing things, reading. idk pretend thereās a power outage and see what you gravitate to?
The strap of my dress snapped a few years ago and then in minutes I sewed it back on and felt a satisfaction so profound that it had to be Ancient and Just. If you donāt know how to mend it, someone does⦠COBBLERS are REAL!!!!! Iāve seen them with my eyes and they have re-birthed my shoes like Gods on Earth. Mass consumption has us addicted to buying and discarding but I highly recommend repairing your shit - relationships too! My uncle who doesnāt shut up once told me that ālife is all about maintenanceā (genius) so I forgave him for being the way that he is!
Each has varying degrees of transit mobility and work in different ways. All are on the cheaper end for major citiesāthough depends on your idea of cheap. Iāve lived in philly and minneapolis without a car. Phillyās trains and trolleys get you most places youād want to go if you live near a stop. Thereās also a bus system thatās a little frustrating bc of traffic but the routes are pretty comprehensive. Some bike lanes but the drivers there arenāt super safe to bike around. Minneapolis is more spread out and there are two light-rail lines (i think? maybe there are more? Iāve been here for like a month), and it seems like most people i know who arenāt driving take the buses. Thereās also an incredible amount of bike lanes and trails. Downside is winter probably. And i havenāt lived in baltimore but iāve heard good things! Itās also more affordable than most cities and i canāt attest to the quality of the public transit but i know itās there.
its got a lighthearted vibe so think like cute halloween. I loooooove songs w a halloweeny vibe so the first ever playlist i made when i got spotify (that i might still add to if i remember) was halloweeny music. Cannot attest to its quality bc i started it when i was 17. Linked below!
