if you're a photographer or artist who works with photographic media and have access to a printer you need to do this it's the best thing ever; you can try it with different types of paper, fucking up the paper before scanning, etc. the colors will turn out cooler than you'd expect & the texture is so editorial... even cooler when your printer starts running out of ink

Recently inspired by a series of American avant-gardists i’ve started experimenting with using an inkjet printer to print onto clear 16mm film to create an image. this is an example of one of the guides i’m using to lineup my images with my clear film and print directly onto the image plane. unfortunately i almost destroyed a printer that would double my college tuition however i am determined and i shall not fail. i will update with results pi.

Sending your film out and waiting patiently for the moment when the negatives arrive and you get to look through the frames in the daylight. Even then, you aren't really sure what they'll look like when they're scanned in, but it's fun to recall the memories you may have forgotten about if the roll was in the camera for months before that. The final task of scanning isn't always fun, but it can be meditative in itself as you see each image come to life one by one.

For getting already-printed photos digitized, it might be best to see if your local photo/print shop will do them, but if you're comfortable sending your stuff in the mail, I have used this Kodak Digitizing Box service (it's a different company licensed to use the Kodak name). They just send you an empty box, and you send it back filled with whatever you need scanned. Once it's done, they send you either a thumb drive or download link back with your original media. There are other similar services out there, but this is the only one I've used!
