Adam Brody crushes it in a tight, satisfying indie film that effortlessly juggles comedy and drama as the mystery unfolds. So glad I finally got around to it!

I've had this in my watchlist for awhile. Trailer looks so fun. This rec finally nudges me over the edge: I'll have to watch it soon. Thank you!

this was so incredibly subversive of any expectations that I had for it- I hadn’t seen a tonne of stuff about it other than the trailers that came up on ig reels. Still, about an hour into this, I was absolutely blown away by how many questions the film could ask me without me feeling uncomfortably overwhelmed. of course Sebastian Stan was brilliant but Adam Pearson shone through the cast tenfold, his natural charisma and magnetism is so unique. also I adored how much they committed to making this look like an late 2000s celluloid New York indie flick, super dope choice. I’m content with letting this film stew in my brain for a while before I watch it again but as it stands, I‘m pleasantly surprised by this!!

Really fascinating, weird, dark, while also being incredibly funny and charming. unlike anything I’ve seen before & cool soundtrack. Can be incapsulated by this letterboxd review:

Energetic, kooky bildungsroman featuring a cast of many P.I.-featured performers. Absurd enough to be on Adult Swim, prestigious enough to be highlighted at major film festivals! Likely playing in a theater near you! Also on Apple TV 2/27. Saw it a couple times and would like to watch again!

It's 20 minutes of shredding and lyrics about climate change anxiety, and I listen to the whole thing every time. Linked: the live performance I saw of it a month ago in Portland, fittingly, during a torrential downpour.

An incredible, genre-defying film from Johnnie To that uses Judo as the philosophical foundation for its story of three people looking for more out of life. You see them thrown to the ground repeatedly in its 95 mins, but more than anything, it's a film about the importance of getting back up. Over, and over, and over. It features a deftly hidden twist and a couple incredibly dynamic sequences (the arcade scene and the night club centerpiece) that I had to rewind and watch again. Outstanding cinematography and inventive choreography in almost every scene, whether it's 4 conversations woven together at once or a 1-on-1 Judo match in the tall grass.
