becoming convinced that I don’t have any mental illnesses, just a *severe* case of nature deficiency. sleeping under the stars and biking under the trees and being sweaty and muddy for two days has healed me.

The secret is truly going on walks out in nature. don’t bring your headphones, all you will need is yourself. I started to get really bad anxiety attacks, and found out that nature seems to ground me and allows me to think rationally. Not only that, but nature has this way of helping me to process my day or process my issues head on instead of ignoring them and acting like they don’t exist. I no longer fret about my job, bills or relationships, even though I am still struggling in all three. Right now, you could be putting all of your time and energy into other things that are not you. Be selfish, nurture yourself, drink water, take a walk on a hiking trail or a bike greenway for however long. On harder days, I like to go deep into the trail and sit in silence, listening to the birds chatter and the squirrels chase each other. Once you give nature time, nature gives time back. You will get through this. ❤️

Sometimes I just need a break from the hustle and bustle of life and to sit on the grass or bench in a quiet park. Listening to the leaves rustling in the breeze and the birds tweeting brings about a sense of calming throughout my body that feels so recharging for my soul.

My dad teases me about how when I was a little kid, my favorite thing to do when I was on the landline phone with somebody—be it a relative or one of my best friends—was to breathlessly describe the things that were in my bedroom so that they could have a mental picture of everything I loved and chose to surround myself with, and where I sat at that moment in time. Perfectly Imperfect reminds me of that so thanks for always listening and for sharing with me too 💌
