I love that I can walk around Walmart in my pajamas and no one gives a shit. I love that we have a god given right to fistfight in parking lots and Waffle Houses. I love living in a wild west where I can slip through the cracks of bureaucracy. Lots of things I don’t like about America but the social contract is paper thin, which can be freeing
The liquor laws here are really crazy so any time you travel somewhere else it makes you look soooooo endearing when you go into a CVS and say “wow! look at all this Black Cherry White Claw! I never knew I could buy alcohol and tampons in the same credit card transaction!” And then you immediately get carded which is so flattering

It gives you a broader understanding of the music you do play, and makes you a better comrade to those who do perform those instruments. Learn a pitched instrument, an un-pitched percussion instrument, a chordal one, a monophonic one, to sing… They all make you better.
