I absolutely love Fortnite. I started playing in September of 2017 and fell in love with the game soon after. I remember being in class everyday in 8th grade and the only thing that was on my mind was when will I play fortnite next. It was a crazy level of obsession I had to this silly cartoon game. As time went on I made friends solely just because of Fortnite I remember having like 5 really good online friends just from Fortnite. It was crazy, good times! I’ve taken breaks from Fortnite but always came back to it. There has not been a single month in the past 8 years where I have not at least played one game of Fortnite. I started playing when I was 15 and now i’m 21. Crazy to think about. I graduated middle school, then high school, then went to college, then dropped out, then went to another college, then dropped out of that one, then went to another college all while playing this game. I love Fortnite so much although it’s just a game it means much more to me than that.

If you can withstand the occasional slur thrown your way by a teammate when your molotov just misses its mark by a couple feet, this is an incredibly rewarding strategic shooter that is super fun at the casual level - just don’t take it too seriously. It’s an iconic game for a reason and worth checking out for its historical/cultural significance alone. It has retained its idiosyncratic features from an earlier age of computer gaming that makes it feel like a fresh change of pace from the slew of twitchy, bombastic, movement based games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, etc. For example, you have to stop moving to shoot accurately, there’s no sprint, slide, or dive, you have to put your gun away in order to throw a grenade. It’s slower, more intentional- and as such, it’s really able to dig into your mind. I would recommend finding a friend who has played this game for years to help show you the ropes - there’s a high learning curve to start with, but overcoming each obstacle feels really substantive, like learning a new language.

I’m making the kind of deals diplomats can only dream of on this goddamn game. They need to hire me at the UN to negotiate US-N Korea relations the way I’m bargaining between kpop and hiphop fandoms. Game is called Soundmap. Add me as a friend! 🗣️
