Similar whimsical thing going on. incredibly talented vocalist and they employ oboes and a kind of folksy baroque sound with really stunning compositions however I still find them kind of similar to the Sundays' whole thing. Most of this record is fantastic but specifically Epitaph Ivy and Woe is very special.

Seven years ago The Ophelias made Always, the prettiest indie album ever. This new album, produced by Julien Baker, isn’t so pretty. The instruments are turned up and chaotic. Spencer Peppet’s vocals can be difficult to find in that loud mix when first listening, but they’re there and they’re urgent. Her lyrics are like poems with choruses. They aren’t always the most rhythmic or musical, like it’s more important to get her thoughts out than to craft a perfect verse. They’ve tagged this album as “mermaid rock” and “nature punk” and I think you’ll see that those are fitting descriptions! Cumulonimbus is a good song to start with. Salome is a banger!

The Innocence Mission is a band that I started listening to this summer. If you enjoy The Sundays or Mazzy Star/Hope Sandoval, I think you’d love this band. Their lyrics are, to me, extremely uplifting and positive. As someone who tends to wallow, sometimes I need my music to lift me up. The Innocence Mission makes me feel really hopeful. My favorite songs by them are Beautiful Change, Spinning, and Lakes of Canada.

It's a great feeling getting help from somebody, it's a great feeling helping another, and it's the greatest when you and another can help each other. I love being available to people

About a woman, and a guy who visits her. They talk about a dead Jewish girl in a white dress. And then there's a boy and girl who love each other. It's autobiographical but you can't tell where the author ends and where the other begins. Feels like nothing else matters when you can yearn the way this text does.
