i love this movie with my whole being. it played a huge part in developing my sense of humor, and it always brings me comfort. it’s familiar, and it reminds me of my hometown in some ways. i had a pink princess tv when i was a kid, and i remember watching it on that for several nights in a row until i changed it to something else, but i always returned to it eventually. i can quote it like the script is written on the palm of my hand, and hearing “we’re going to be friends” by the white stripes always makes me think of those intro credits with the plates of food. so much love for this movie. “tina you fat lard, come get some dinner!” i can’t explain how exactly this movie defined me without doing an extreme self-character study, but it has made me extremely unfunny. i saw this at eleven years old, and immediately my takeaway was “cringe and quirky comedy is paramount; i devote my life to you.” now after seeing much funnier movies, i’m arguably a lot funnier (thank god), but this is still one of my favorites. still so funny in ways i could never be.
