Yelle is a French dance-pop group, and I have the weirdest story of how I discovered them. I was with my childhood best friend when we were like 13 or something, and her uncle put on Yelle’s single Je veux te voix. He was like “aha she is so cool, I saw her in a club in Paris” or something like that… Somehow I’ve remembered the name after all these years, and it’s all I’ve been listening to for the past two weeks. It’s oddly great work music (maybe because I don’t know French?) but also really good dance-y party music. Now my childhood bestie owns a house and is engaged and I’m sitting here listening to a song her uncle recommended to us when we were preteens. Sick!

this month i’ve been listening to these two specific albums: zaho de sagazan — la symphonie des éclairs fleur de peau — contre-sens but mainly i love listening to 60s music, my favourite french musician from that time is sylvie vartan, others i would recommend are: christophe, françoise hardy, jacques dutronc, zouzou, francis lai, delphine desyeux, and france gall <3

for all of my childhood and adolescence i was a very lonely and solitary child and i thought that that was all there was for me. yesterday i was surrounded by friends who came out to see me for my birthday and we drank and danced till we could barely walk. this is a life i never thought i’d have. there is always a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how weird and dark and long the tunnel is. wait it out. it really does get better.

i just stayed out till 4 in the morning at a party with incredibly pretentious people who didnt even ask me a single question about myself. all because i have a ridiculous fear of missing something. i could’ve gone home and smoked.
