I remember begging my Mum to pre-order this album for me, to add to my chronological collection of Coldplay albums (I had found the majority of them in charity shops.) Sonically, Ghost Stories was a major shift from their previous release, Mylo Xyloto, which featured stadium belters like Paradise and Princess of China. Mr. Martin was going through his "conscious uncoupling" with Paltrow, and let's just say it really showed. I love how contemplative this record is, it's pure yearning. Choir vocals washed in reverb accompanied by lowly strummed guitar and 808's that feel like catching a chill at the nape of your neck. If you're a fan of Parachutes by Coldplay (Coldplay's first record and the album everyone back-handedly compliments as "actually good") give Ghost Stories a go. Notable track mentions : Another's Arms, True Love, Always in my Head, Oceans

Here are my fav records that I have been listening to lately, this lineup strikes me as very "pi.fyi-core". Hope you enjoy :) (in order of appearance) -Thinking Fellers Union Local 282: Lovelyville <discovered this reading some Robert Schneider interviews after seeing the Apples in Stereo play for the W.C. Hart memorial show in Athens> -DJO: The Crux <That guy from Stranger Things has a set of pipes, great happy album> Panda Bear: Sinister Gift <sounds like The Beach Boys! the parts that don't are kinda atmospheric and very very pretty> Bon Iver: SABLE, fABLE <he strikes again. very stripped back but absolutely gorgeous. Justin literally can not make a song that isnt somehow lush and cold at the same, like being covered in a sheet of ice that keeps you warm. He has this interview where he talks about the work and thought process behind it. Very cool!> Black Country, New Road: Forever Howlong <this album features almost entirely female vocals, a nice change since Issac Wood left the band, and the vocals, piano, and woodwind instumetaion are just absolutely gorgeous, sounds like rain smells. Cameron Winter: Heavy Metal <since half of this app is from Brooklyn, I'm sure you know this guy! He sings for the band Geese, but this record doesn't sound much like Geese at all. It has some of the craziest lyrics.I have heard in a hot minute, and is adorned by ~usually~ sparse and skeletal instruments, as well as Camerons odd yet alluring voice. Hope you enjoy! lmk what you think of these records :)

recommended by mossyelfie it is generally not the usual genre i listen to and im not been a fan of this kind of vocal style, however the more i listened to it the more it grew on me. it reminded me of Someday We Will Foresee Obstacles by Syd Matters. maybe mossyelfie will like it! this album has really sad feel to it that is contrasted so well with simple and lovely guitar arps. and the production is so clean! I will definitely be using this album as reference when mixing some of my own songs haha my fav tune is 'the sound of settling.' love how minimal the lyrics are and how fun it is to sing along to death of an interior decorator is a close second. love the progression and the lyrics there. again so fun to sing along to! we looked for giants is also an honourable mention. very crunchy also transatlanticism would fit so well in the video game 'life is strange', i could just imagine it playing in the background it and would have def made me cry when paired up with that storyline. did i mention how smooth the transitions are?? definitely the smoothest transitions between songs from any album ive listened to so far. so tastefully done! it was very fun to try something new. like i said this is not a genre i usually listen to, but transatlanticism really caught me by surprise and i think if i listen to it a few more times it'll definitely grow on me much much more. also, what an outro! such nice vibes. thank you for the recommendation!

a myth dating from the victorian period, these tiny, decorative glass bottles were wept into by those mourning their loved ones. once the tears collected eventually evaporated, this marked the end of their mourning period. this myth has been debunked by scientists, with others saying that these bottles were in fact used to store perfumes, but i'm very obsessed with this romantic notion and will be sticking to it!

i see solitude as metamorphosis. you need that time in the cocoon to really check in with yourself and the joy of that comes from how you'll gain a deeper understanding of yourself. sometimes i spend SO much time with myself that i get SO BORED that I HAVE to venture outside of myself. when i say venture, i mean challenging myself in how i self- express which will in turn, nourish my interactions with others when i choose to seek company. proceeding to create art, but trying new methods. going down youtube rabbit holes of things i am interested in so i can discover new references. cooking a meal without following a recipe and surprising myself. making the space i am in super cosy (candles, snacks on deck, music, blankets) going on long walks and picking up conversations with strangers through shared observations of life around us. watching music festivals/boiler rooms and dancing around my room like a mad man. once you feel comfortable in being by yourself, you'll be more aware of what you need from your company and when you seek it, you'll be a lot more intentional about it and cherish it even more.

*shines bright light in your face* But WHY do you like what you like?! Echoing a sentiment from Tyler, the Creator, where he tweeted for people to expand on what they liked about his songs and delve into the WHY (i.e the bridge, chords, riffs) Truly believe it’s so so important to be able to articulate why things bring us enjoyment, pleasure and giddiness, because that just makes way for one to obsess/ research and learn more about said thing! This is basically a gratitude post for PI, I just love blagging about what makes this Little Life of Mine more bearable !!!
