ahhh it’s a genuine scarf around my heart the way it fills me familiarity, warmth, and comfort. just rewatched it in a movie theatre on my campus and i forgot how much of a genuine treat this movie is. it has so much heart in it from so many aspects. it’s also an incredibly underrated winter watch! festively relevant :-) grab some some warm foods and drinks whether it be tomato soup paired with bread or hot coco with some marshmallows. this movie is a key blanket piled watch.

(no spoilers ahead) I went to see it together with my sister. I cried, she cried, we both crode. A lot. The first five minutes of the film already got me. Andrew‘s and Florence‘s acting is phenomenal. It all felt so genuine and real - which makes sense considering that Florence really shaved her hair for this and that the story hits home for Andrew because of his mother. My sister and I were honestly baffled upon seeing that they didn‘t receive a single Oscar nomination. That gas station scene alone deserved at least one. I rarely watch romance movies and I knew this one was going to be heartwrenching, but I really enjoyed it. They portrayed the ending in such a beautiful way, a way that is gently feeding you the truth whilst causing your heart to shatter simultaneously. It‘s the perfect movie to watch on a cold evening, with a warm blanket and your fav feel-good snack. And most definitely tissues. (Gave it 4 stars on Letterboxd)

what a joy it is to discover this movie again every few years. even now I can’t remember every beat or moment, maybe because that moment when Samantha delivers those numbers is just that heavy. but the colors, the arcade fire score, the writing: wow! a truly wonderful movie, and so prescient too. when she describes him as the space between words i was delighted to see so many similarities between the OS and the way that LLMs work.

i think people don’t utilize their local libraries enough when they’re such wonderful resources! one of my favorite things to stem from the library and library cards is the app “libby”! it’s an amazing way to get free books, audiobooks, and magazines digitally. completely free if you have a library card (which are also totally free!) go support your local library!
