During the pandemic home times I got really into putting an ambient room on in the background while I was reading. I love a library room with sounds of dust crackles and book pages turning. This creator Miracle Forest makes a lot of great ones with their own little story like ā€œHiding in the bathroom at a weird gathering,ā€ or ā€œAbandoned gas station at the end of the world.ā€Ā

When I'm working I like to have something playing in the background. Usually, that comes from youtube. As I've mentioned previously in recs - sometimes it's Kenji videos, but often it’s random ambient youtube playlists. Whether it's ambient forest sounds, libraries, or whatever your favorite fictional world is (yes I play ambient harry potter music), there are endless several-hour-long videos on youtube for you. This is ASMR at its finest.

i loved these at school and now at my job when i have to dive into spreadsheets and research i like to have them playing, and if i’m at home i usually burn a complementary candle. also when i read fiction books i sometimes like to listen to one of these in the background with a vibe matching the book i also like the ones that don’t have jazz and are just background sound without music. also there’s some channels that do book or movie themed ones like this one that has studio ghibli background ambience videos

It seems to me that when people hear ā€œASMRā€ they picture someone pouring sand into a bucket or chewing mashed potatoes or something. Those have their place but the real shit for me are these fantasy-leaning, themed environment ASMR vids with titles like ā€œVictorian Era Ambience - Soft Rain Sounds, Horses, Crows, Bell Soundsā€ or ā€œOld Library Soundsā€. They’re accompanied by slightly animated CGI images kinda like a video game menu screen. I think I first developed a taste for this kinda stuff watching my older brother play Resident Evil 2 as a kid. The sound design and visuals were so transportative. I was thrilled. A lot of my pastimes, in one way or another, are about transporting myself mentally to another time and place. These are a great assist.Ā

I started a practice this year of pulling a tarot card every morning, using prompts I write for myself each month, considering what’s on my schedule, what phase the moon will be in, and so on. (A gift to future self) Then I’ll meditate on how I can implement the wisdom of that card into my day. It’s a good way to ground before stepping out into interacting with other humans.Ā

This is a guitar pedal that I use on my voice. I put it last in the chain for a little extra magic for certain parts of the song, or turn the length down if I’m keeping it on for a whole song. It’s a tiny cave on my pedal board.Ā

I don’t know much about Aindulmedir / PƤr Bostrƶm, but I know they’re from Sweden, and that I want to collaborate with them. I love the album Star Lore. ā€œThe Hermit’s Sleepā€ is my anthem. Dungeon synth calls to me.Ā
