what shouldn’t be normalized, however, is nihilism stemming from said fear. take the energy that the fear stokes within you and move forward with that. hope others do the same. we are the only ones who can make the world worthwhile for eachother. we cant individualize our ways out of problems that spawn from individualism. be a good friend, both to others and yourself.

it may be cringe. it may have been said before. but sometimes, after we are continuously exposed to the same phrases we start hearing them as background noise, hearing them without actually fully listening to them and applying them to our lives. your reality is literally whatever you choose to make it!!! and you are the only one who is truly in control of that and can truly shape that. i absolutely hate the tumblr romanticizaction of sadness and the notion that “positive/happy people are stupid or ignorant” and that “negative people are broody and intelligent because they see the world for what it truly isâ€đŸ„€. it is so damaging to think that way, on the first-hand, to yourself, and it is soooo easy to fall into a mindset where you victimize yourself. on the other hand, it is so difficult to be in a negative circumstance or surrounded by negative things and purposely choose not to wallow in your misery and to instead take control of your life and concentrate on the positive parts of it instead. YOU are the one who has to live in your own brain at the end of the day- why would you want to make it an uninhabitable environment? you’re basically the architect of a new house in creative mode on minecraft and you’re choosing to build a dirt block house instead of a mansion. (ofc this is a generalized statement and it is so valid to be sad and be going through it when you’re going through adverse circumstances. i don’t want to advocate for toxic positivity and i think it’s so important to recognize and feel your emotions, good or bad! Denying/avoiding your emotions is also extremely damaging. also acknowledging that this can come easier or harder to different people in different circumstances.but regardless, at the end of the day, you are in charge of how you respond to your circumstances!) it is so easier said than done, especially if you’re in a rough patch of your life or have built a habit of romanticizing your sadness. this is something I have to remind myself of all the time too- tldr: negativity should be acknowledged and experienced, and not a basis for identity.

not sleeping and deteriorating is not going to help you get out of the funk of hell world. letting it take over doesn't necessarily mean you've gained a purpose. we all need purpose. it is also okay and normal to make a mistake. you cant escape those things. a lot of times depression can take away ones will to make things happen in your world; its also good to give yourself some grace. sometimes it just takes a moment, but you got this

seconding looking into anarchism and smaller community/forms of government for alternatives of what could be, and socialist history to see the types of great governments the US has squandered intentionally to push the "capitalism is natural" narrative... HOWEVER, these are tools for collective action and dreams to reshape our unfixable broken system. great knowledge but not great for keeping yourself mentally healthy. stay or get involved if you can with political groups in your area, however I find it beneficial as an american to stop looking at our government as a whole. especially in rural america it gets easier to remember that our local governments, despite being controlled by the big wigs, are more influential to our lives and something we can directly change. we can also touch people close to us, rather than focusing nationwide or globally. in these times it's best to build communities to resist any oppressive change that comes onto us the best we can, sure - but to also cherish the great silver linings we have with each other in the midst of all the chaos. it's okay to turn off your TV and hang with friends and do/find personal hobbies for a bit. it's okay to also not feel okay with the state of things. it is irredeemably and preventably bad, and it's okay to be mad about the tough times ahead. but it's likely we have a lifetime ahead of us still. so if you're lucky enough to find joy in it, do so like there's no tomorrow - even though I assure you there likely will be. I wish I could be hopeful too but I think it's a tall order to ask when a lot of preventable problems are being caused and perpetuated on a wide scale. and I do think its a little subjective and based on a gamble of the future. can we have hope if things change radically? for sure, in some ways. can we have hope if things continue without change? not really. not for me or my family, and not for kids growing up now. but even though oppression is barreling down on me and my loved ones personally,  I'm taking it as a challenge to be loud and proud and remind everyone they can't pretend I'm not here and human. I hope you feel inspired to do the same. stay safe friend you are so so important and I mean it!!! if you have access to even one therapy session a month I highly recommend it just to get these worries out.

started writing this a few hours ago when i first saw this ask, then decided against posting but i've since changed my mind. there really is no justification for it outside of entitlement. even from a selfish lens, there's no long term benefit to its usage. it harms the world and culture in more ways than one. a.) the water and energy usage that isn't a secret at this point. "no ethical consumption under capitalism" yadda yadda and yeah corporations are extremely culpable in the state of the environment but there really is no need for chatgpt and the planet is already too delicate at the moment. b.) the exploitation of workers in the global south. this program is not just a computer figuring it all out, there are in fact humans behind it. it reminds me of the acceptance of fast fashion and how people have the tendency to divorce the idea of the garment worker from the garment they wear when all clothing is handmade in some way, shape or form. you need hands to man a sewing machine, you need human eyes to moderate content. also, content moderation can be a thankless job with psychological repercussions. c.) the erosion of social skills, humanity and media literacy...this one is very personal. like, you have a cushy email job but can't write an email? you need a computer and a worker in kenya to get paid a dollar an hour to figure out a daily routine for you? i've seen the program churn out blatantly incorrect information. fine tuning a prompt or chat or whatever to give you the exact (possibly incorrect) answer you need isn't really that much less work than sharpening your research skills by cracking open a dictionary or using boolean search keys in google. again, the main issue with this kind of stuff is the entitlement to convenience, with no thought towards the repercussions within and outside of us. we are losing major recipes (critical thinking and media literacy) here, people! i probably did an iffy job are coherently articulating my thoughts here but i am in fact, human. and that’s the beauty of it all.
