I went to film school and I definitely feel you; I haven't worked on a film project in six years. BUT I did get my creativity back! I decided to expand my horizons to do it. What was compelling and beautiful about art, to ME? After a lot of searching, I've settled on poetry with sporatic photography and painting.

Pull a joni mitchell and engage in arts that differ from your primary to inform it at a later time. If you lean more toward visual arts try poetry, song writing, music making, acting/performances for the self, crochet, clay, claymation, videography, sound collection, whistling, discovering new sounds you can make etc. Often when i want to create but i feel tired or uninspired i try to use still life or my surroundings— BUT If thats boring i ask myself a question and let my train of thought ramble -> connecting that rambling to my pen on paper Honestly setting your inner critic to rest and creating things that are imperfect is actually incredible! More often than not letting first drafts be final for a moment allows you to discover what you crave to create.

Extremely demotivated at work because my compensation is laughable when compared to the expertise I bring to the position (which is a creative role). This malaise has infected my personal creative pursuits to my great frustration. But this past month or so I’m finally working on a new screenplay, in two writing groups and meeting other writers, finally sharing sharing photography I‘ve been sitting on for months or longer, and I shot/directed a music video for the first time for a friend of mine.

okay so maybe u don’t paint anymore. Maybe u stoped playing guitar or whatever. But what about other things:: Do you bake? do you cook for friends? do you plan motives? do you make playlists — actually Do you make lists of any kind? These are All creative acts!! Once you realise this, and you see that you are constantly engaged in acts of creation, the idea of a “lost” creativity starts to feel incorrect, which then makes getting back into more formal creative practices (music art etc) feel much less daunting

Poetically, this was going to be the last date before I delete Hinge and take a break for a few months. Message received, loud and clear 🫡 On the bright side, I did get to see this bathroom with two stand mixers and a printer in it
