i stumbled upon her on spotify during the pandemic and listened to almost nothing but her album, Division, in lockdown. unique, soulful, smooth. i love everything jenevieve has put out since, she’s criminally under the radar.

Got turned onto her in a BCNR "What's in my bag" video and find her style, voice and the way that her vocals are recorded really hold up right now with the folk/country moment happening in the music culture.

i feel like she’s the artist who I’m most locked on the same wavelength with right now. everything that she releases I'm super into. I first heard about her years ago when a friend sent me homeswitcher off of her first project (previously released under a now defunct alias) but I didn’t really have her on my radar until 2021’s Frailty. songs like your clothes and movies for guys off that album fuse together so many sounds from rock, emo/pop punk, electronic/dance, and experimental music in a way that still feels cohesive. since then she’s been a bit of a sonic chameleon. her second album Census Designated is like pop hooks and song structures over noise rock. the track Video is especially haunting and the title song is explosive while not having any drums, just crushing waves of noise, guitars, and her voice. this year she's already released a shoegaze/grunge album under her Venturing alias that’s fantastic and very 90s rock inspired, and her third Jane Remover album drops in a month or so, the lead single JRJRJR is probably going to me my most listened to song this year by a long shot. outside of her main albums she's got an electronic mashup/remix alias, some dancefloor ready bangers under her main name, songs that are basically disney channel pop tracks over drill/rock fusion, and tracks that draw from latin music like bachata. she's one of the most versatile artists in the game rn and i'm loving all of it.

my solution for most situations. sad? have a cup of tea. tired? have a cup of tea. had a great day? no better way to end it than with a strong cup of tea. i use joko (a South African tea brand) and add two sugars and milk.

I love stuff and i love hanging onto things. I love that i have a stack of letters my friends and i wrote and passed back and forth in class at 13 years old. I love that i still have the fake menu my best friend and i made when we were 8 for our fake restaurant that only served bug-based dishes. I love that i have a drunk love note scrawled on toilet paper at 3 in the morning in 2012. seemingly meaningless things like this from my past help remind me that I’ve actually led a wonderfully full life despite often feeling like I’ve not done enough.

how did this become such a widely despised word? I LOVE IT. it sounds exactly like what it means and feels so good on the tongue.
