in my country we don’t have a language but a dialect, the moroccan dialect or as we call it “Darija”
Since it’s a dialect i can name a few words that quite can’t be translated properly in a specific language.
- مقود : (mkawed)
Depending on the sentence it has two meanings
Either really broke / fucked up
Or awesome/cool/the best - ( bo wedina ) بو ودينة ( translates to someone who has an ear )
However it means that someone is easily influenced or tend to follow the rumours without hearing the full story. - اودي ( awedi )
It has no translation however it’s like an expression -> well, bruh, whatever, Keep in mind, we have many dialects, i live in a big city so we tend to make french words arabic, for exemple : Formaj - coming from the word Fromage (cheese)
Forcheta - coming from word Fourchette (fork) And some of our words differ like :
coming from the word Sandales, we say Sandala (my city) and the northern people call it Chankla. Cockroach : we call it (serak zit : صراق الزيت ) which literally translates to the oil stealer (dont ask how or when or why we just call it that haha) and in Fes city they call Boudarer ( بو دارع )
i love how same language speaking countries have different names for things like footpath - sidewalk
sauce - gravy (don’t like that one)
thongs - flipops
car park - parking lot
shopping centre - mall
autumn - fall
chips - fries
chips - crisps so much fun
it's like building a silly little world together. with no explanation (some are more straightforward than others), here's some favs among the inner sanctum:
- naur
- yaur
- gilerr
- shwag
- ali, muthu, ah hok
- bos
- picolas
- nou nou, wee wee
- nonsh
- bachata break
- puberto
Saw someone do this on another app, and thought it’d be a funny lil game/brain exercise: Polenta
Kidney
Sandal
Clarinet
Pie
Camera
Basin
Fax
Alimony
Chlorine please add yours!!* *footnotes: these are in the realm of European-adjacent/English-speaking/North American colonial names, so I’d also love to see people do this with other languages/cultures!
*I find femme names are easier so bonus for neutral/masc names!
I can’t find the Creator and i am mad about it because i wanna credit the one who made sure to put this for free.
I’ve found this website RetroPrint where they show the details of how you can make a Windows 95 customised theme on your phone (with over 800 icons app to choose from 27 of them are already made for the modern apps like netflix twitter etc - some graphics for the widgets too And 3 sounds.)
The fact that i can stay in bed warm with my phone or laptop and music in the background as i watch my favourite movies/series/youtube vids with a warm tea is simple enough to make me grateful for wherever i am today.
Worrying about what I should wear to work is a beautiful thing because it’s a privilege that sadly some people can’t afford :(
Complaining about to cook is a beautiful thing because someone somewhere sadly can’t even afford/have access to a simple bread piece.
Literally feeling the warmth of the sun while standing waiting for the bus is a beautiful thing to cherish and be grateful for.
If there is one style that literally calms me is stippling.
The endless dots, the slow process, the nuance effect, the final results.
I just love it and appreciate it even more when i spend hours/days to finish one.
