i know he’s very popular but i love him so much. i’ve loved his art since my mom showed me his stuff as a child and grew up seeing his works at moma etc. i hate the idea of the “tortured artist” - i instead feel like his writings and art really illustrate the beauty that it’s possible to see in this world despite the pain we experience which is a universal experience for a lot of people i think - i’m bipolar myself so i definitely relate to some of it. in recent years i’ve had the privilege of visiting the museum in amsterdam and even spent a day in auver-sur-oisie. it breaks my heart he didn’t have much reach in his lifetime but i hope wherever he is that he knows how beloved his works are :)
and fun (?) fact world bipolar awareness day is on his birthday 🥲❤️
