i know heās very popular but i love him so much. iāve loved his art since my mom showed me his stuff as a child and grew up seeing his works at moma etc. i hate the idea of the ātortured artistā - i instead feel like his writings and art really illustrate the beauty that itās possible to see in this world despite the pain we experience which is a universal experience for a lot of people i think - iām bipolar myself so i definitely relate to some of it. in recent years iāve had the privilege of visiting the museum in amsterdam and even spent a day in auver-sur-oisie. it breaks my heart he didnāt have much reach in his lifetime but i hope wherever he is that he knows how beloved his works are :)
and fun (?) fact world bipolar awareness day is on his birthday š„²ā¤ļø

- Sandro Botticelli, The Birth of Venus: I love the pastels in this so much and the way the hair flows and the shell and just š¤š»š¤š»š¤š» I will laugh every time this is emulated in media!!!
- Kehinde Wiley, Philip the Fair: I saw this at a museum when I was a mess emotionally and it was so beautiful and vast and gorgeous that I teared up!
- Pierre Auguste Cot, The Storm: This is for the yearning and when I see it Iāll year again every time without fail
- Hans Holbein the Younger, The Ambassadors: I love these two freaks and the fun little sneaky third guy!! I learned about this in a history class that I ended up despising bc my brain doesnāt work to memorize dates are u kidding me!! I remember all the paintings and this one was always such a fixture for me - Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith and Her Maidservant: itās definitely the theater adult in me that lives and loves Baroque but with that in mind - the lighting in this is so powerful
being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and itās actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic youāre passionate about
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKERāS DAY!!!! i love having a union, i love being a union steward and getting to support my unit. when my union won its contract, i got a pay bump, better benefits, and increased protection as a worker. š„³
unions help address racial and gender pay gaps, issues workplaces impose on families and those having kids, addressing unsafe conditions, plus things like better health insurance, wages and overtime, weingarten rights to representation, and more!!!
if you donāt have a union but are thinking about forming one, check out AFL-CIOās page (linked) or Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee. thereās always more power in a union!! āš„š¹
