My Chemical Romance’s ’Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge’ has been my go to album for a couple of weeks now. It’s honestly such a perfect punk rock album, that even the most casual fan could enjoy it, knowing the intended storyline just adds more to an already great album. I truly and honestly believe the My Chem guys are like this generation’s Beatles, they’ve pioneered so many things in the music scene and no one can truly do it like them.

ā€˜Gish,’ the 1991 debut, remains an underrated psychedelic classic. Billy Corgan was less Darth Vader here (these days he wears a cape onstage and is giving serious Empire vibes) and more pretentious, insecure suburban Chicago asshole who could nevertheless play the holy Jesus out of his Strat. šŸŽø (There's a great video on the YouTubes about a three decade quest Billy undertook to get this yellow "Gish guitar" back after it was stolen from him backstage at a gig in Detroit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyjBDmEcKAE). There's not a bad song on this album and the original quartet were an absolutely šŸ”„ live band. I remembering seeing them play at a 1000 person club in this era and they totally slayed.

I’m cheating because I definitely have admitted to this, in fact I vehemently defended them on a podcast once. I don’t really have any pleasure I find guilty (I am cringe and I am free). But they’re one of the bands in the U.K. that’s cool to hate. And people are often weirded out when I say they were a big influence. Sam’s Town is one of the best albums of all time and I WILL fight you on that.

Peach Pit’s sophomore album ā€œYou and Your Friendsā€ is such a perfect album. No skips at all, all the songs are so catchy and beautiful. My favorite tracks on it have to be Puppy Grin, Brian’s Movie, and Shampoo Bottles. I feel like a lot of the songs on it are very nostalgic? It’s hard to explain, they’re all about past relationships, platonic and romantic (probably where the album name comes from). It’s very easy to attach songs to experiences you’ve lived. I think the song I’ve most resonated with is Puppy Grin, just the fact it’s about hopelessly devoting yourself to someone that’s not even yours to begin with. Very easy to listen to, hope to get the vinyl soon, can’t wait to see Peach Pit this summer!!

I love taking a good nature walk. Back in high school I had to wait upwards of 3 hours for my dad to come and pick me up (come late junior and senior year they told me to just take the bus home), I made it a bit of a habit of walking along the backyard of my school, it was this huge grassy space with trees and a river further back. Thinking of it now, it wasn’t very big, but man the self reflection I did there was crazy. Now I frequent downtown a lot because of school, so I just walk around getting lost, occasionally going to the parks nearby and just sitting and thinking.

Remembering when I visited an old friend in Indiana last summer and they took me to this quarry, I was asleep on the ride there so I’ll never know where it is, it remains a mystifying memory. A moment suspended in time. Even as someone very afraid of both water and heights, being at the very top was so breathtaking (in a good way). Apparently the Empire State Building is constructed entirely with limestone from Indiana.
