the easiest way to feel like a film student is to drop alfred hitchcock’s name, and unironically the birds is my favourite classic film. it’s not just the dread of thousands of angry birds, or the hilarious scene where seagulls attack a children’s birthday party, but it’s the dynamics of character relationships and how the women base their relationships with one another on their relationship with the main male character. my favourite line to quote is ā€œoh, i seeā€¦ā€ which is said so many times to by characters to silently judge each others decisions and statements. then, once you’ve seen the birds i recommend watching or learning about the 2010 film birdemic: shock and terror, which is this insanely bad but oh so beautiful thing made by a single man inspired by hitchcock.

I have an enduring love of Daphne Du Maurier and Hitchcock, and when the two are combined there's nothing I love more. I actually designed a collection inspired by it in 2018. The birds is also one of the scariest films I've ever seen and Mrs Danvers truly the most terrifying character.Ā Ā

older films rock, and i HIGH recommend Shadow of a Doubt, Alfred Hitchcock’s self proclaimed best work. A movie about the death of the american small town, familial abuse, divorce, and weird incestuous tensions. it’s one of the more tense films i’ve seen without really showing too much actual voilence. It’s all about power, control, and how people can be manipulated. Also I am a huge fan of Park Chan-Wook’s Stoker, and had no idea that was loosely based on this film. That movie rips too go watch it after they make a fantastic double feature.

I normally do not watch any horror movies either outside of October but these are ones I always don’t mind firing up. Basically an Italian originated style from the late 60s-early 80s maybe which were about terrible things happening to people shot in the most visually appealing way possible. They can be corny yeah, don’t worry about it. Check out Dario Argento’s stuff, he’s considered the benchmark/creator of it. Suspiria would be a good one to check out! The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is also good.

the botanic garden in sydney calls her putricia and she’s about to bloom for the first time in fifteen years. i feel like i am watching a scene from invasion of the body snatchers and that a human will crawl out of her pod.
