It was my birthday. My brother takes wonderful care of me. Caffeine and pastries. Maybe a bottle of wine. Small talk with our favourite restauranteur, who sincerely remembered us after our trip last summer. Who wouldn’t remember us?

like many baristas my age, i had an affinity for french pop music as a highschooler, particularly "yé-yé", which was what they called 60's pop! i was down with a bad case of main character syndrome (a common symptom of being a teenager) so i loved the drama of it all - chic and taboo like smoking secret cigarettes 🙄 i was also taking french in school - i was terrible at it but being able to vaguely understand the lyrics helped me to appreciate it even more. flash fwd a few years & i was finally presented with the opportunity to travel to france!!! i never ever thought i'd get to see paris but the stars aligned and i spent a week there in summer 2023 with my fiancé and my dad (which was particularly special bc i never get to travel with him) 🥺 it was incredibly romantic (despite the lack of air conditioning...wtf europe) and i had also gotten my garçon into the french music i'd loved as a teen so our visit was soundtracked by the likes of françoise hardy, jacqueline taïeb, jacques brel, sylvie vartan, jacques dutronc, jane birkin, serge gainsbourg (melody nelson holds up if i pretend i don't know what he's saying!!) etc 🥰 the video i linked is one of the only videos i took while in paris, and it's possibly my fav video i've taken ever - the little girl i accidentally caught dancing in front of the eiffel tower makes me smile every time i watch it.

this feels like sort of a basic answer, but i adore parc with my whole heart. i don’t go often, so when i do go, it’s a nice treat. plus french food makes me feel fancy, and the ambience is so lovely. my friends and i went last month after seeing the nutcracker at the philadelphia ballet. it was basically the perfect winter day in philly. we ordered escargot and salmon tartare to share. i got steak frites for my main and chocolate pot de crème for dessert. DELISH! i also had an unbelievably good café au lait. whatever coffee roast they’re using (i assume it’s la colombe but i could be wrong), it’s KILLER. see below the aforementioned chocolate pot de crème and café au lait. my shaylaaaaaa ❤️

there is little more british than grave robbing i’m not sure what to tell you. as for the appeal, consider the innate proclivities towards divadom endemic to homosexuality… ahhh yes. my mother (biological) put me onto the first of many mothers (figurative). used to plug in another controller and let me convince myself i was doing shit. her cone bra built nations. i thought i was going to be a game designer before anything else. she’s the beyoncé of video games and her IP holders need to remember that

I have a miserable relationship with my corporeal form but very little else in the world can cut through that like singing does. It’s a such a physical and embodied practice, forces you to be so present within yourself but so free. At its best it feels like flying and at its worst it provides the impetus for self improvement. It’s one of the only things I love doing just for me. Which feels ironic somehow
