i have been wanting to get a new tattoo and i have been looking at fashion illustrations for inspo. I came across Ms. Sugimoto and her work always gave me butterflies. Though her work was produced in the 90s - 2010s it’s reminiscent of illustrations from the 60s and 70s; where artists like Akemi Watabe and Antonio Lopez were popular. Also, it also reminds me of Jeffrey Fulvimari (the illustrator behind Madonna‘s children’s book series, The English Roses). Theres not much information on her, so i went on a tiny search through Japanese blogs to see if anyone had more insight on her life. Sadly no images of her, but i found her friend posting about her even in 2024. Yuko passed away in 2011 after a short illness and in 2013 they had an exhibition of her work in Osaka. Her website is still being maintained too. I like finding out new facts on obscure entities so I got my fix last night. Now I’m going to order her illustration book off Mercari to add to my coffee table book collection.

I love searching for illustrators online, nothing makes a better feed on any ding dong web site than having TONS of illustrators. Sorta wanna get this style tattoooed now, is that wild? This is from a nytimes article about "lightening up" and I couldn't agree more about what her work does to my life.

Here’s a little tattoo I did, I enjoy doing american traditional and traditional japanese inspired tattooing, as well as custom tattoo designs! The algorithm on other apps doesn’t work for visual artists these days, I hope Pi:Fyi is a positive change from the usual social media woes.

A tattoo I recently did on a dear friend. I want to do more of this. As an artist finding people who would want this style feels like a bit of a challenge.

idk how i came across this in my daily wikipedia surfs, but something about this painting just amuses me so much. my first impression was this looks fairly modern in a way, possibly because of the composition and how she made her features so light and bouncy. it oddly made me think of disney when i looked for longer. then i see it was made in 1909 😂 this painting can transcend times and i wouldn’t truly know when it was made unless i looked more closely at the objects around the subject. but even that can be a stretch as vintage items can be popular amongst anyone and they can just have their vanity setup look like this. i tried looking for photographs of her online but alas nothing came up with certainty.
