I’ve been picking my way through this.. Shakespeare is hard and not really a good thing to be reading when you’re out or at work, but if you can dedicate a bit more brainpower and time to digesting it, I’ve loved it so far. Always felt that he was really hilarious in a way that still holds up and that is certainly upheld by this play. Shakespeare plays always have great annotations and forewords to help make sense of them too, so definitely look for one of those volumes.. my edition is from Folger. I also picked up the Stereophonic script which is *huge* due to the massive amount of dialogue which often overlaps. It was also like a 3.5 hour play so there’s that too.. not sure if I’d rec this one but I wanted my heart ripped out again so I had to get it
Did this for the first time back in July. I have never chain smoked more cigarettes or laughed harder than I did that night. Go to a drama bookshop or a library, pick out something random with an ensemble big enough to fit your group, and just go crazy. It’s pure fun and so silly but also really creatively engaging. We read some new-ish work called Family Furniture and it was pretty terrible, but it was a great time stumbling through it. All you need is a living room and the chutzpah to get choicey and you have a night made!
