this is one of my favorite albums ever ā very lush and vivid, yet also sparse and delicate at the same time in keeping with aobaās usual style. lots of gorgeous field recordings (yay ocean sounds!) and sweeping orchestral arrangements if i recall correctly it was conceived of by aoba as a soundtrack of sorts for a (fictional, non-existent) film about a girl with psychic powers who gets exiled to the island Adan. the wildlife welcome her but then die because they have such short lives. she also soon dies but gets reincarnated as multiple different creatures. very interesting and beautiful stuff
bean_boy94 yess check it out!! her older stuff is actually much more minimalistic ā mostly just her voice and a classical guitar ā so this album was a bit of a departure for her. she has a new album coming out in february too though, called Luminescent Creatures, and itās supposed to have a similar orchestral sound :-)
a delicate, dreamlike song that captures her style of intimate storytelling through minimalistic acoustic guitar and ethereal vocals. Released as part of her 2020 album Windswept Adan, this track feels like a quiet offering (a bouquet) of memories and emotions woven into soft melodies.
this video is incredible⦠god it makes me want to sob until my eyes bleed because of how beautiful it is. first off, ichiko aoba is one of my favorite artists ever. although i dont understand japanese(and therefore do not understand what she is singing about a majority of the time), her musical arrangements and melodies feel like ten soft fingers massaging my brainfolds like UGHFHHHHHHhhā¦. her music is just mesmerizing. anyway, this music video seems to be the visual first teaser among three singles preceding her upcoming album āLuminescent Creaturesā. the shots are so masterfully curated, every one earning its own artful moment in the video. the colors, the grain, the cuts, the camerawork, the visual effects, the song, everything hits extraordinarily i canāt recommend it enough.
