a Fundamentally flawed film in its awkward dialogue, pacing and arguably whole concept. however there is just something about it that’s so special – the uncanny nature of the practical/CGI effect combination, the childish portrayal of the monsters, the magical realism / coming of age crossover (never been a more goated genre combo).

but also if you miss how pixar movies hit you in the chest before both of you got older
