Turns out they aren't lying when they say it helps Especially when you're listening to Silent Hill soundtracks Seriously, I've never been more hyped to do planks in my life

I do not associate working out with any sort of emotional release. If anything it might be a meditative thing? Because of this I do not listen to angry music or anything like that either. I have earbuds in maybe 30% of the time I’m in the gym. My friends and strangers have called me a psychopath for this, but I think I just have a strong internal monologue and enjoy people watching. Anyways, when I do listen to music, it is usually wholly inappropriate for the situation. Sometimes the contradiction is what I enjoy the most about it. Today I listened to Ethel’s Carpet Bed, which I had not heard yet. Great little EP, not sure if I have a favorite as there are only 4 tracks that blend pretty smoothly together. The weird tradcath lifter stereotype that has infected our youth kinda reminds me of her heavy religious tones, so maybe it wasn’t as inappropriate as it seemed. Listen to something weird at the gym, achieve hypertrophy, vibe out.

i work a physically intensive job, so setting aside time to center myself and tend to my mobility is very important to me. that said, a surprising amount of work goes into finding the perfect backing track for these quiet moments of remediation, and andré 3000’s ‘new blue sun’ has been a haven for me since its release. the lead melodies on its opening track incentivize thoughtful, intentional breathing, and encourage reflection in ways simple guided meditations simply can’t measure up to. on more than one occasion, i may or may not have been moved to tears by its ethereal cascades of emotion :’) when the talking heads over at headspace just can’t cut it, three stacks comes through ^_^ here are some other picks that put me in an ideal headspace to face the world, ever poised on the precipice of collapse: • brian eno — ’music for airports’ • hiroshi yoshimura — ‘music for nine post cards‘ • adrianne lenker — ‘instrumentals’ • floating points & pharoah sanders — ‘promises’ i should do a playlist of these…

I used to spend every night sitting outside looking up into the night sky trying to find constellations. I used to be so obsessed that I got my Mom to take me to a viewing conservatory with a giant telescope every week so I could see Mars in 4K. When that wasn't enough my mom got me a million and one books on constellations, moons and stars, and how to identify them along with a shiny new high tech telescope. I haven't used a lot of that stuff in years after we moved unfortunately. I learned very quickly that light pollution is a big issue once you move away from the trailer parks and into the suburbs, and any chance at seeing stars is squashed under someone's giganormous TV shining brighter than a Ford F150's headlights. Straight up archangel Michael coming to take me away during the rapture kind of brightness that these people are using. However I am nothing if not stubborn! I will find a way to use that big ol' telescope I have and I swear I'm gonna find every constellation, star and planet that passes overhead if it's the last thing I do!

Sometimes just looking up and taking in your surroundings makes you feel so real and human. Something about seeing what your fellow man has created is really inspiring and gives you a cheery buzz of life.
